Now more than ever, you are needed to donate your old blankets, towels, and sheets to your local animal shelter. With financial cut-backs, repairs on shelters are often put off, so if it's drafty, the animals suffer. I know my shelter uses rags to stuff under doors. No kidding! Empty out those closets... this is your chance to get rid of stuff and do something useful!

POS Alert

via Robert Baker of The Post-Standard

Gary A. Collins, 33, of 43812 Stine Road, Redwood, New York
Redwood, NY -- A Jefferson County man accused of beating a dog to death with a claw hammer is charged this morning with aggravated cruelty to an animal, a felony, state police announced....
...Parole officers charged Collins as being an absconder after Collins didn’t report to parole authorities as required or notifying officers about his whereabouts. Authorities believed Collins lived several months in the woods while he knew police were looking for him.

I do not know the class of felony so do not know the possible jail time for this guy. If I get that info, I will do an update.

It is a relief to know that someone who would kill a dog or anything with a claw hammer is in police custody. This case brings to mind the abuse continuum (my phrase) that begins with torture or abuse of animals and before long moves to abuse of people. One has to wonder if a human life was saved here.
