Top 10 Peeves Dogs Have With Humans
1. Blaming your farts on me..... not funny... not funny at all !!!
2. Yelling at me for barking. I'M A FRIGGIN' DOG
3. Taking me for a walk, then not letting me check stuff out. Exactly whose walk is this anyway?
4. Any trick that involves balancing food on my nose. Stop it

6. The sleight of hand, fake fetch throw. You fooled a dog! Whoooo oooooooo what a proud moment for the top of the food chain.
7. Taking me to the vet for "the big snip", then acting surprised when I freak out every time we go back!
8. Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests. Sorry, but I haven't quite mastered that handshake thing yet.
9. Dog sweaters. Hello ??? Haven't you noticed the fur?
10. How you act disgusted when I lick myself. Look, we both know the truth. You're just jealous

Dog Thefts Up 32%
Please keep an eye on your dog! This brief article confirms the worst... most dogs stolen are almost always resold, and this can be to a research facility or to a dog fighter as a practice dog or bait dog.

Creative Animal Rescue
I saw this story linked on facebook and was just thinking of sharing it with you and thought "what a nice story," when I realized the subject of the story is a facebook buddy of mine who does dog rescue!
I am very pleased to present this to you!
Check out this other quote that is one million percent true:
Please get your pet spayed or neutered!

I am very pleased to present this to you!
Real estate professionals work hard to find prospective property-owners their dream homes. But one New Jersey group is committed to providing that same service for pets-in-need as well.
The Diamond Real Estate Group, from Mount Laurel, has used social networking sites such as Facebook to personally sponsor 25 animal rescues and help facilitate over 100 more over the past couple of years.
"Our team started with animal rescue two years ago," says Toni Diamond, founder of the group. "So many dogs and cats that would make wonderful pets are euthanized because they are dumped into shelters unwanted. We believe it's important to stand up for these animals that have no voice."Philly-burbs.com has the goods..
Check out this other quote that is one million percent true:
"The South does not regulate with spay and neuter as much as the North," says Diamond. "This results in lots and lots of unwanted puppies and shelters that fill up quickly. We network with friends, vets, shelters, cross-posters and volunteer transporters to get dogs from North Carolina and Georgia up north."Remember those transports I go on periodically and for which I have posted numerous impossibly cute pictures? This is how those Sundays fit into the big picture in dog rescue.
Please get your pet spayed or neutered!

Be Advised!
This beautiful dog, Badger, a police K-9 partner, died tragically when a rubber ball she was trying to catch became lodged in her throat. I've heard of this exact thing happening before. It's best to get over sized balls for your dogs to play with. I think it may have happened to one of Oprah's dogs, if I'm not mistaken. A ball fills the shape of the throat perfectly and you have no room to maneuver your fingers to grab the ball. It's a terrible way for a pet to die.
DAYTON — A Dayton Police drug dog died over the weekend after too, a freak accident with her trainer and police partner.Full story here.
Badger, a 6-year-old Belgian Malinois, was exercising with her police partner Det. Kevin Bollinger, at Lyons Field when a ball tossed to her became lodged in her throat, according to Sgt. Gary Lowe.
Badger was taken to a veterinarian off Woodman Drive, via a police escort, after several unsuccessful attempts to dislodge the rubber, baseball-sized ball. The veterinarian was able to remove the ball, but was unable to revive Badger, who died at approximately 1 p.m. Friday.
The veterinarian told police that the rubber ball collapsed when Badger bit down on the ball, but expanded in her throat. “This was a total freak accident,” Lowe said.
My condolences to the Dayton Police Department and Badger's partner, Detective Kevin Bollinger.

That's The Scoop!
LEBANON, N.H. -- An apartment complex in New Hampshire has turned to technology to combat an age-old problem -- dog poop.Full story here.
The manager of the Timberwood Commons in Lebanon is taking action against pet poo scofflaws in a manner befitting "CSI." She bought commercial DNA kits and will soon be testing the droppings.
I wonder if they submit another's dog poop for the database DNA, can they be found guilty of obstructing justice?! I guess a whole new area of law will be created.

Grandpuppies
For years my Mother has had to deal with having my dogs as her "grandchildren." My aunts and uncles are referred to as Aunt and Uncle so n' so, by my dogs, not that they love it (and one objects loudly). I sign cards with my dogs' names and put little paw prints after their names, and a smiley face after mine.
So it's good to know I'm not the only freak in the world.
I think I love the earnest faces of the people involved, the best. See this link for the slideshow.
"For years, we didn't have any grandchildren and my daughter's dog, Mr. Moose, was all we had," said 63-year-old Eileen Williams of the San Francisco Bay area.
"You take what you get in life and make the most of it, and we've been pleased he has been a huge part of our family over the years, as our grandpuppy."
Mr. Moose!

I Think New York Is Going To Get Dumped On
If this article holds any truth, and considering Mr. Wiggins was hiding while inside the apartment last night, I think we're in for some major snow. I was wondering why he was acting so strangely, and had never seen him do what he was doing (hiding, shivering, insisting on sitting on my lap more than usual).
This article says Mr. Wiggins isn't crazy.

A Win-Win in Michigan
I completely and wholeheartedly support this effort made to socialize shelter dogs and have carefully-screened incarcerated people helping to train them and make them more adoptable. Good for the mental health of both dogs and inmates. It moves shelter dogs into homes since they are trained with basic commands and are made used to a more normalized living situation. Behavioral issues, which crop up due to lack of continuity and routine and made worse by the increased stress of shelter life, have been worked on before the adoption.

A few things...
I just came across this interesting group and the new book they are promoting. Got good reviews. Fight Dog Cancer is compiling treatment stories for dog owners to read and share for the benefit of us all, and they will donate $1 for your story to a dog cancer treatment organization.
Other good news, and some that's not:
Seems dogs can help detect arson now, as well as track counterfeiting!
And read about three dogs who have returned the favor of being rescued, Gee Whiz, Holly, and Max, all dogs who saved their humans' lives.
They do these amazing things, and yet some humans can be cruel.
Not this man, who gave his life for his companions. God bless you, Frank "Poncho" Kruse.
And finally, Delta Airlines better get its act together where transporting pets is concerned. This is the second story of a lost pet I know of. I've stopped flying them, until they figure out a new system or train their people better. Over the summer, I had occasion to book 35 flights for a group I volunteer for, and not one was for Delta. I made a point of it!

Justice for Buddy
Some time ago, a man named Clay Romero dragged a German shepherd mix, who was stolen from his owner's truck, behind his own truck until the dog died.
The man who stole Buddy and dragged him to death was sentenced to three years in prison.

Buddy belonged to Sacha and Joe Leber of Delta. On Dec. 29, while the family was at a Delta restaurant, Buddy was stolen from the back of their pickup.
"We took Buddy everywhere," said Sacha Leber on Friday by phone. "I was shocked, sad and angry when we realized he was gone."
The family adopted Buddy from the Delta County Humane Society five years before his death.
In the years that followed, Buddy became a playmate for the Lebers' three children — Isaac, Owen and Alyssa.
"Buddy was the most kind, gentle, respectful dog, especially with our children," Leber said.
The man who stole Buddy and dragged him to death was sentenced to three years in prison.

Short Nosed Dogs Flying
I have to say I'm not a fan of putting dogs in the cargo section of a plane at all. My Mom once put our huskey, Lacy, in for a trip and he was not quite the same afterwards. No one is checking on them, it's hot, and the noise in the bowels of a plane have to be very stressful. Still, if you have no choice, keep this information in mind.

Thinking about flying to your next vacation destination with your dog? If he’s a bulldog, pug, or other short-snouted pooch, you might want to consider some new data from the U.S. Department of Transportation: Short-faced breeds account for about half of the dogs who died while traveling in the cargo hold in the last five years.
During this period, 122 dogs died while traveling as cargo on passenger planes, according to the DOT. The figure includes 31 bulldogs and 11 pugs. Vets say respiratory issues are usually to blame.
Owners “should consult their pets’ veterinarians about any genetic features in dogs of this type and the medical condition of their pets before deciding to transport them by aircraft,’’ the DOT said. Many vets recommend against transporting these dogs at all in the cargo hold.
Delta Airlines has specific regulations against flying with short-nosed dogs. According to Delta’s website, “Pug or snub-nosed dogs and cats are not hot-weather animals and therefore do not thrive in warm temperatures. As a precaution, Delta will not accept them as checked baggage or as air cargo if the temperature on any part of their trip exceeds 70 degrees F.” The site goes on to list 25 dogs breeds and 4 cat breeds that fall into this category.

Do You Know Where All Pets Go?
What ever the theologians and academics and new age folks finally come to think about this is fine with me. In fact it will be "neither here nor there." I already know where all pets go!
