With financial cut-backs, repairs on shelters are often put off, so if it's drafty, the animals suffer. I know my shelter uses rags to stuff under doors. No kidding! Cleaning out your closets?

Items you can donate to your local animal shelter:


  • Towels
  • Linens, sheets, blankets (even if they're old)
  • Area rugs
  • Leashes and collars
  • Newspapers (which are used to line cages)
  • Treats
  • Dog and cat food
  • Dog and cat beds (do you sew?!)
  • Standing fans
  • New mops and broom
  • Water hoses in good condition
  • Your time
