This is a GREAT group. I am always amazed at how many animals they save each year. It's upwards of what national groups do, only they do everything from pulling from the shelter, to vetting, to fostering, to getting dogs and cats adopted. That's a tall order. If you are in the area (just above NYC), come for the day!
SAVE THE DATE: OCTOBER 2, 2011
Enjoy a leisurely 1.5 mile stroll with your dog on a path bordering Long Island Sound, followed by a fun day at the park with vendors, refreshments, activities for kids, demonstrations, dog contests, music & much more! Last year's event was a huge success, with almost 1,000 people and their dogs attending.
Proceeds benefit Pet Rescue and New Rochelle Humane Society plus part of the proceeds will help the animals at the Mt. Vernon Shelter.
Walker Registration is now open..
Please help us spread the word!

Thank You God, for Patrick's Recovery. Help Us To Remember The Other Dogs in Need.
A 1-year-old pit bull nicknamed Patrick sits Tuesday, April 5, 2011, near piles of gifts donated to him as he recovers at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, N.J., after being found starved and dumped in a trash chute. Kisha Curtis, 27, of Newark, pleaded not guilty to animal abuse charges. Authorities believe Curtis tied the dog to a railing in her Newark apartment building and left the state for more than a week. Letters and donations have poured in from the around the world in support of Patrick.

Remember, there are many other dogs who suffer Patrick's fate each day, and they don't end as well as his story, hard as that has been. Not taking away from the little guy, but please direct your generosity to some other dogs in need. Here are a few rescues who take in "Patricks" on a daily basis:

More on the Patrick Love Fest
Enjoy seeing the little guy eat! And remember, Kisha Piece O'Trash Curtis is reporting to court today for a preliminary hearing. The Universe has spoken.
If you want to share in the fun, go too The Patrick Miracle on Facebook. They have over 50,000 fans already. Good even keeled people running the page, too.
Now, Patrick is being taken care of. He's getting food, vet care, and toys from all over the world. If you want to save another dog, all you have to do is go to your local shelter and donate or adopt, or donate to one of the many rescues that do the front line work. I have several listed in the side bar on the left.
Here are a few that rescue dogs like Patrick every day of the week.
Eyes of An Angel Pet Rescue
Noah's Ark Rescue
Pet Rescue (in Westchester, NY)
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue
Okay, and another happy video, though you can still see how skinny Patrick is. It's a long haul to make up for severe neglect.

Pet Rescue's Gala - Friday, March 4th -- a great cause to support
This local (NY downstate area) organization - voted Best Animal Rescue Group in Westchester County - rescued 900 pets in 2010. This compares nicely with national groups I follow and support. I'm proud to say I donated a full journal page for their upcoming Gala event. They are dedicating the event to all the foster families that helped them achieve so much over the past year. When I think of good places to donate, Pet Rescue is among those at the very top of the list.
Between this and the last post (on fostering the pets of our deployed military personnel), I hope you will see how instrumental foster care is to the pet rescue community. It literally saves lives.
Since 1982, Pet Rescue has saved over 10,000 pets! Amazing!

KittyKind: Seniors for Seniors Adoption Event
November 14 & 15, 2009
1:00–6:00 p.m.
PETCO
17th Street and Broadway, Union Square, Manhattan
KittyKind's Annual Seniors for Seniors adoption event pairs senior people with our senior cats. It's the perfect match — older cats thrive in a stable and tranquil home, while senior owners thrive socially, psychologically, and physically. Come meet KittyKind's senior cats, all of whom are looking to find their forever home. These wonderful animals may have retired from their hectic jobs of chasing mice and stalking feet, but their hearts have not slowed down and, more than ever, they are appreciative of a loving companion and will provide infinite amounts of loyalty, affection, and joy.

Dexter the Canine Communicator and Counselor
via Our Pack, Inc. - a pit bull rescue in lovely San Francisco (which has the cutest pack of dogs):
Hello, I'm Professor Dexter. I used to be a professor in bug chemistry, but now I'm a professor in canine communication. Because my person rescues dogs, I was exposed at a very early age to all sorts of personality types – in dogs that is. At well over 3 years of age, I am now a canine counselor.
I have seen many, many troubled dogs come to us that later did very well because my sister and I taught them better canine communication skills. I have found that many dog problems stem from an inability to communicate with each other the right way. Sometimes we simply misunderstand each others’ body signals (which is mostly what we go by). When this happens, everyone gets upset, really for no reason at all. Then, when the humans step in and they don't understand what's going on, it can get even worse. Sometimes humans think dogs are so much like themselves!
Dogs really are professors of sorts. They learn, then teach, learn, then teach. They teach for the purpose of survival and that survival is for all involved, not just for one. I learned from my older sister Hailey, with her gray muzzle, because she had to teach other rescue dogs lessons and learned from those lessons herself. Now I'm teaching my little sister, Posie, proper dog-to-dog skills. She's still in the "positive experience only allowed" mode because, at a year and a half, she's still young. She has to build up her skills and have a fair amount of confidence to do a job like mine and work with the tough guys. My person says that we've all taught her about us.
I like being a professor/counselor. I like helping dogs that are insecure. They're usually the really loud, barking, growling, lunging dogs that make a big dramatic display. They are also the type most often misunderstood by the humans. Humans usually think these dogs want to fight and are aggressive. But usually they're just trying to AVOID a fight. Funny, huh? I just completely ignore the noisy, dramatic show. Showing them the side of my face makes it clear that I don't care if they're loud and trying to get me to go away. I'm not afraid of them because it's all just BS anyway, and after they're done with that business, I reward them with play for stopping that behavior. This also shows them the proper way to greet, instead of using gaudy distancing type behaviors that only drive away potential friends.
