The other day I posted that the Cessna 310 Cloud Nine had donated last year needs some instrument repair work and is otherwise grounded until those can be completed. Every month, Cloud Nine rescues about 50 pets, bringing them from a high-kill shelter area to a rescue or group of rescues willing to take them, wherever they need to go in the country. If an area has few spay/neuter programs, and lots of extra dogs, they are likely to be euthanized. Cloud Nine saves lives.

Here's a bit from their email alert to me this morning. Notice how Cloud Nine flew laboratory beagles to rescue just last month! (see my other post on the subject earlier today)...

This is every bit as important as the emergency transport requests we respond to, such as the 50 cats we transported from Joplin, MO to Seattle, WA July 1st in partnership with the ASPCA in response to the tornado in Joplin, or the 16 beagles we transported from Raleigh, NC to West Palm Beach, FL last September after the shutdown of Professional Research Laboratory Services in North Carolina due to charges of animal cruelty. Without our aircraft ready to go, we can't respond to these emergencies when they come up, nor we can we respond to our regularly scheduled transports. At the moment, we have two transports we have had to cancel due to Sugar Pop being down. That's two plane loads of pets that will be put to sleep. We need your help to make sure no more healthy, adoptable pets are killed.

Cloud Nine Rescue Flights Needs Your Assistance

I received the below email alert. Also, their wonderful homemade treats for dogs are still available until the end of this week. I promised a review and Mr. Wiggins is preparing his comments.

EMERGENCY!!

SUGAR POP IS GROUNDED!

For the first time in Cloud Nine's 850 hours of flying over the past two years, saving the lives of 962 pets across North America and transporting veterinarians to remote areas, one of our aircraft has a major problem that has forced us to take it out of commission until it is repaired. Sugar Pop, Cloud Nine's Cessna 310, is grounded and unable to fly rescue missions.

Two of the most vital instruments - the Attitude Indicator (AI) and Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) are broken. These are precision instruments that are required for safe and legal flight in instrument conditions (flying in clouds). Until we get these units replaced, we cannot fly Sugar Pop on any more missions. We have obtained quotes on several options, and need to raise $15,000 immediately in order to get Sugar Pop fixed and back in the air.

You may remember that Sugar Pop was generously donated to Cloud Nine almost exactly one year ago. An excellent plane in great condition, we have used Sugar Pop on 14 transports all over North America. It has excelled in our longer distance transports and transports of smaller pets, where it is a better aircraft for use than our Aztec. We have been routinely flying it on transports going from Texas to New Hampshire (saving the lives of over 130 dogs in 2011 alone). Sugar Pop hasn't let us down yet. We urgently need your help to make sure we can continue using this tool to keep saving the lives of homeless animals.

This year, we've truly put the aircraft we have at our disposal to use. In the first half of 2011, we've transported 398 pets over 26 transports. By comparison, in 2010 we transported 434 pets over 32 transports. We are fully on track towards meeting our goal of 52 transports for 2011, and expect to come close to saving the lives of twice as many pets as we did last year! However, each plane we fly is best suited for the missions that it flies. There is not room for overlap, but due to capabilities and also due to scheduling constraints. Until Sugar Pop is repaired, the missions it flies cannot be flown, and those pets cannot be saved.

Cloud Nine strives to always be there when it counts, responding to both the constant need to transport pets from overpopulated areas to places where they will find loving homes, and also to emergency needs around the continent. In the past year, Sugar Pop has become an integral part of our capability to do this, and has proven its capability especially in immediate need and long-distance transports. Cloud Nine Barkery... Order now thru July 15

The moment we have all been waiting for! Cloud Nine Rescue Flights opened its barkery!

See, order, and let your little one enjoy. Mr. Wiggins got some Flee Flea biscuits. They are 8 bucks a bag ; not bad, especially since you are contributing towards the very worthy work of Cloud Nine.

Cloud Nine Rescue Flights aims to eliminate the euthanasia of pets in the United States and provide aid to animals worldwide. We do this by providing safe, fast, and cost-effective air transports of rescue pets, providing animal welfare-related transports to people who provide aid to animals in underserved areas, and by educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering of pets. In doing so, we manage to not only attack the problem on the surface, but also at its roots.

Cloud Nine is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that relies upon donations, grants and sponsorships to perform our life-saving transports.

I'll be writing a full food review later, once Mr. Wiggins weighs in. I expect Renaldo to turn up his nose if it's not cheese or meat, but we shall see.

If you go to this site, and input your favorite charity's name, and if that charity is registered with Good Search, each time you search using Good Search you will generate money for the charity!

I received a most excellent mailing from Cloud Nine Rescue Flights yesterday, and though I have made all the 2010 contributions I can (and then some), I searched them today for a friend who needs to transport a dog. I noticed the Good Search logo on their site and started clicking to learn more.

If Cloud Nine Rescue had just 1,000 followers using Good Search in stead of Google or Yahoo, etc., almost $7,500 a year could be generated and sent to Cloud Nine Rescue! That's a lot of operating money, especially considering Cloud Nine uses about $2,000 for each rescue flight (which can rescue upwards of 20 animals at once). This would be a great help to them!

So I have made them my favorite charity (at least, for the purposes of searching online -- there are too many charities I love to list) and will be using Good Search from now on. While there are many worthy organizations, there does seem to be a threshold that needs to be crossed to make the effort worthwhile, so it doesn't help if you list a group and you are the only one listing that group. Let's channel our effors and help a national organization.

Cloud Nine Rescue Flights

I love this group!

This past weekend, Cloud Nine helped out a veterinary clinic by going to remote towns in northern Quebec that have no veterinary care. On Friday, we transported 4 veterinarians and vet techs up north, and spent Saturday helping them out. This weekend, we will be returning to bring them north after their week helping animals up there. These communities are very remote, and have zero veterinary care the rest of the year.

Cloud 9 Rescue Flights -- 19 Dogs Transported This Weekend

Having just adopted a dog from the rural south of these United States, where there literally are no spay/neuter programs, I know first hand how important it is for organizations like Cloud 9 Rescue Flights to get support from the public. While I did not utilize them, due to needing to get Mr. Wiggins up from Louisiana quickly so I could use my week off to get him acclimated, I see that they literally saves lives with their work.

Today 19 dogs will get safe passage form South Carolina to Manchester, NH. They will be saved from the gas chamber, a barbaric form of execution that takes more than 20 minutes, and often leaves the 20+ dogs in the chamber at one time sick and in need of a second gassing. I kid you not. There are forces that are working against the gas chamber usuage, but until they have their victory the best we can do is support safe passage out.

Cloud Nine’s mission is to fulfill flight needs that are otherwise difficult to fill. We are unique in our ability to provide an extremely capable aircraft for long trips. Trips can exceed 700 miles one-way, costing upwards of $2,000 per flight. Being able to perform these trips in a single aircraft makes them less strenuous for those being transported, as well as greatly increasing the ability to complete a mission, by only having one pilot and aircraft required. In addition, our aircraft is larger and more capable than many aircraft frequently used for these types of flights, which allows us to complete flights that otherwise would not be possible.
